I Am Strong

Yesterday I woke up with legs that were so sore I could hardly get out of bed. I, like half of the nation, had been slacking in my exercise routine for the past few months. So on Monday I decided to step up my efforts. The results, were legs so painful, they hurt to the touch.

Tuesday is normally a cardio day for me, which means running on the treadmill. Since I could barely walk, I dreaded the thought of it, but I persevered; because I made a deal with myself, and I have a goal. So I began. The first few steps were excruciating; the take-your-breath -away kind.  I kept going. I picked up my pace and through it all I repeated,” I am strong, I am strong, I am strong.” And you know what? I got through. Because I am strong, and so are you.

Sometimes we don’t allow ourselves to push through to the edge. We stop before we even begin. It would have been so easy for me to say, not today, maybe tomorrow.  But I would not have had the feeling of accomplishment I felt when I finished. And, I would not have had the proof that yes, I am strong both mentally and physically, and when it counts.

My daughter said to me the other day that she hates the thought of going out to run in the cold, but every time she does, she loves the wind on her face, her breath in the air, and the way she feels like she is flying. It keeps her going.

I had a client this week who wasn’t sure what to order for a late dinner. She was hungry and wanted something warm and substantial, but knew that would not be in her best interests so late at night. So she ordered a lighter meal, and felt perfectly happy and satiated. It made her realize that losing weight does not have to be about deprivation. It gave her the comfort she was looking for, as well as the confidence to make smarter choices in the future.

Every day we have the ability to challenge ourselves in ways large and small. Every time you choose to push through the doubts, the barriers, the negative beliefs and the pain; you get stronger. You strengthen the side of you that wants to be alive, and in control, and happy. You will never know how great you can be until you get to the other side. What awaits is magical and transforming.

So I challenge you to give that extra push every single day, in everything you do.  That’s what makes life interesting and worth living. So repeat after me,” I am strong, I am strong, I AM STRONG.”

Now go out and prove it.

Leave a comment below and tell me how you will be strong today, tomorrow and always.
