Looking Forward

Happy New Year! I love new beginnings. There is always hope and promise to all things new. This year in particular, is a big one for me, as I will be reaching the big 5-0!  I have mixed emotions as I write this, because for many years I avoided telling people my age.

You see I was an actor, and anyone over 30 simply did not get work. And then there is the fact that most of my friends are at least 10 years younger, so I never wanted to draw attention to the reality that there were ten more candles on my cake.

So why do I put it out there now? Well, there is a certain knowledge that comes with age; but more importantly, I realized it was holding me back. I could not fully appreciate what is and will be, because I was hanging on too tightly to what was.  There is a huge difference to looking backwards vs. looking forward in life.

Many of us do this with weight and physical health. It takes a lot to finally look in the mirror and say, “Oh boy, things have really changed.” However, for every “what is” there is a “what can be”. So what do you want your life to be moving forward? For me, I want to be strong, healthy, curious and involved. What about you?

Whatever it is, 2012 is just waiting for you to make it happen.
